How to follow your heart!

When you follow your heart, you are more likely to be happier than those who don’t. But, what does following your heart really mean? Simply put, it means having Faith in the unknown. Some people say it’s a gut feeling, others say its intuition. It really doesn’t matter what you call it, following your heart can lead to joy, passion, happiness, fulfillment and so much more.

In today’s world, it can be difficult to follow your heart due to pressure from parents, judgment of peers, fear of failure and a myriad of other things. However, when you don’t follow your heart, you may end up miserable.

This reminds me of a story about a successful business woman who sold all her assets, including her home. She traded in her busy life and move to the Caribbean to work part-time in an ice cream shop. She spends a few hours at work, then she has the rest of the day to enjoy the serene beaches and cool breeze of the Caribbean. And you know what? She was happier than she has ever been. Is it safe to say that she followed her heart? I think so!

But, what about you? Are you living the life you truly deserve—the one that your heart desires? Or are you living to meet the expectations of your parents/spouse? If it’s the latter, it’s time to do some serious “Gut checking”—and decide. Here are some ways you can follow your heart.

1. Make a list- Make a list of all the things you want to accomplish. Whether it's traveling, starting your own business or something as simple as taking an art class. Then think about each emotion that comes up as you write the list. Are you feeling excited, joyful, happy? Can you imagine yourself doing everything on your list and so much more?

2. Decide—Being indecisive is a productivity killer and can leave you stagnant. Once you make the list, decide that you are going to follow your heart—no matter what! This may mean ending relationships, quitting your job, relocating, and changing many aspects of your life. It may seem scary at first, but remember, following your heart is always the right decision.

3. Be Brave- Following your heart takes courage, dedication, and commitment. Listen to your heart, and act on your decision – no matter how scary they seem. This may mean standing up for your beliefs and letting anyone who disagrees with your decision, that this is your life. And you MUST do what makes you happy.

Your heart knows your true desires wants and needs. Therefore, you should listen to it. When you follow your hearts desires, you will live with no regrets, know who you truly are, and live your life for yourself and no one else. What are you doing to follow your heart?
